A good one!   July 7, 2013   Report Abuse
By markus   This is my only review so far.
Eleanor is the new girl who stands out with her unruly red hair and strange clothes. Park has friends and is established in his school, but he stands out since he's half-Korean and lives inside comic books and music lyrics. When Park tells Eleanor to sit next to him in the bus when no one is willing to give up a seat, a slow friendship blooms followed by an intense romantic relationship. At times Eleanor and Park's romance seems doomed with the obstacles before them, but they don't want to give each other up. The family dynamics are realistic. I adored Park's family and was alarmed by what Eleanor had to go through with her stepfather and mother. This is an 80's book, by the way, so I loved the cultural references. With all the acclaim, I don't think there's more I can add except that I read the novel in a day since it was unputdownable and it stirred my emotions. Don't just read the rave reviews. Read this book if you haven't.
