The movie was wonderful, a great Action and comedy entertainer. You will actually visit the old days with this movie. Johnny Deep was really wonderful and comedy was hilarious and Armie Hammer was a great comedian in the beginning and later he jumps into action to save his brother's wife and son. The Comedy in the movie stops when the movie ends. Really a wonderful movie, also check out the Lone Ranger Game.

A good movie   July 20, 2013   Report Abuse

Overall I liked this film. However, I think the length of the film hindered it somewhat. I did like the characters and the story was decent. Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp portrayed pretty good characters. My stepson equated Depp's portrayal of Tonto as sort of an Indian Jack Sparrow. I think that is just some of Depp's actor traits coming through since he played the character so many times.

On that note, I really liked the way that the character of Tonto was portrayed in the film. He had his own story and driving action for the character rather than just the "sidekick." The set up for the story and plot points were very good and the overall writing made for a good movie.

I went to see this at a matinee -- I paid eight dollars, for a matinee! -- and I was very disappointed (by the way, all AMC theatres have reclining seats -- OMG!). This movie is what they call a reboot, a remaking of the original "The Lone Ranger," with a couple of Big Actor Names attached to it, but if you have fond childhood memories of the original black-and-white series from when you were young and naive, please don't taint them by going to see this film. While the two main characters, Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer, are wonderful actors and do amazing work and are worth watching, the 'plot' itself is simple and uninteresting, and not worth your time. They put in explosions and fast chase scenes in place of character-building scenes, and it shows. It is definitely not a movie for the under-17-years-old crowd, so don't take your children to it, thinking it is the warm, fuzzy, anyone-can-watch "The Lone Ranger" of yore, because you would be sorely mistaken. It has definitely been updated to reflect 'modern' sensibilities and mores, and also reflects what a modern audience demands of a film these days -- fast, loud and violent. So if you like movies where you can turn off your brain and don't have to think, and lots of stuff blows up and people die, then this is the movie for you. If you're looking for a tale that harkens back to the wonderful relationship between the Lone Ranger and his loyal sidekick, Tonto, where they talk and tell each other things, and where they rescue each other without a thought or would be willing to die for one another, you need to go rent the original series and enjoy a month of marathon weekend geek-out sessions watching them with your kids, because this one will have you walking out of the theatre shaking your head and wondering why you wasted ten dollars on a ticket and wanting to know if you can get your money back.
