 It's Superman!   July 19, 2013   Report Abuse

Overall I thought this film was ok. I'm not too keen on all of Superman folklore, but I know they took some liberty with some of the film. For example, the opening sequence with Krypton about to be destroyed was a different take on that world. With that being said, I think everything in the film fit the overall theme of the alien race and warrior like characters like Zod.

I did like the fact that it was just not another retelling of the origin story, but a "re-imagining" of the origin story. However, the characters, I do not feel, were fully developed as Lois seemed just a little flat in some of the film. And, it seemed that Superman did a lot of yelling and fighting in this film, which I guess took me out of it a little bit because I wasn't used to seeing that much intensity in the fight scenes and it didn't seem to fit the character or the moment for me. I felt Kevin Costner's portrayal of Jonathan Kent seemed a little flat as well.

But, overall the movie was ok. If you like visual effects and action, then you'll probably like this film.

You just have to decide what kind of man you want to grow up to be, Clark. Whoever that man is, he   July 24, 2014   Report Abuse

DC fans, your next movie has arrived. Man of Steel, the newest incarnation of Superman, takes the hero to a new, more realistic place that he's never been before. Director Zack Snyder (of 300 and Watchmen fame) portrays Kal-El as the alien that he is, and shows us how the world would most likely react as if he truly was real.

Overall, the movie takes on a darker, more realistic look, no doubt thanks to Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan's involvement as a writer. According to writer David Goyer (who also worked on the Dark Night trilogy), they wanted to portray Superman as if his story really happened. How would people react to a super-powered alien showing up? I feel that they really did this successfully, which helps fuel the thoughts of a successful Batman/Superman and/or Justice League in the future, the latter of which is almost certainly a sure thing.

That being said, it does suffer a bit from Originstoryitis so far. As necessary as they are to help people who've never heard of the hero (who hasn't heard of Superman?), they just aren't as interesting as in a movie with established heroes. Marvel's The Avengers and its related stand-alone films are a good example of this; buzz about the films after the team-up movie is much more than for those before. Only time, and subsequent movies, will tell if this trend continues.

The movie starts out a bit slow, but shows some of Kal-El's back-story before thrusting us into present day. Throughout the film, we get thrown back to the past in flashbacks. While these do add a little to the story, I feel that they could have been handled a little better, or even put them at the beginning of the film in chronological order.

MoS may not have a lot of rewatchability, but the characters are really well developed. No offense to fellow Iowan Brandon Routh, but Henry Cavill absolutely kills it as Superman. And Michael Shannon as the movie's villain General Zod is delightfully sinister, even though you can understand why he does what he does. All in all, the attention to detail, both in the characters and in the little things scattered throughout the film, are amazing.

All things considered, MoS is a good movie. It takes a well known character (who's had so many film adaptations it's not even funny) and turns him into a believable hero. Not only does it do that, but it quite easily gets the ball rolling for the DC Universe to have its own team-up movie a la The Avengers. I recommend everyone go see this, 3D not required.

The Man of Steel returns   August 10, 2013   Report Abuse

Man of Steel is a reboot to the Superman franchise, as it tells the origin story of Superman. Man of Steel does a good job of explaining why Clark is the way he is. The action and special effects in Man of Steel are terrific, pairing this along with a stellar cast of Russell Crowe, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, and relative newcomer Henry Cavill as the Superman, you have a recipe for success. The only problem I had with Man of Steel is that the romance between Superman and Loise Lane seemed a bit forced as it was not developed as well as the rest of the movie was.

Okay Superman movie   July 13, 2013   Report Abuse

It has your standard Superman beating everyone. But the "rite of passage" sequence of the movie where Superman comes to the realization that he can't just want to avoid the responsibility and needs to save mankind is a bit tedious. The decision bounces back and forth too many times for the decision that Superman goes through to feel organic and believable. Still your standard Superman movie comes with its obligated overpowered fight scenes with nice explosions. The camera work is top-notch though with interesting cinematic shots.

I just saw this movie and thought it was a good one. I wouldnt say its the best movie out there, or even better than the batman or iron man superhero movies but still an enjoyable movie.

OK Movie   July 9, 2013   Report Abuse
By MSRamirez   This is my only review so far.
The movie was better than I expected but only with regards to the fighting. The beginning was pretty boring and felt too long. The actor they chose to be the Man of Steel did a great job and I really did see him as being Superman. The Earth father of Superman however I really disliked. I found him be out of character by *Spolier* even being upset when Clark saved the bus. Lois Lane I found to be pretty annoying too, and I didn't find her to be a good fit as Lois Lane. The rest of the cast was ok, the story was okish, but I did find the romance to be a bit too rushed to. Overall I would watch it again but mainly for the fight scene.

Very Intense   July 9, 2013   Report Abuse
By yomo222   This is my only review so far.
This movie was simply amazing! It had plenty of action scenes and showed how superman developed in plenty of ways throughout his childhood without going to far in as to where it was boring. The story was very nice and was not just a beat 'em up film. There were some pretty good lessons to learn from and live by. It teaches about self restraint and perseverance. I would definitely give this movie a four star! The only bad part about this movie is that some of his powers weren't used to their full extent.

Great!   July 8, 2013   Report Abuse

Captivating movie, even for a non superman fan such as myself! The graphics were amazing, although I will say it was VERY loud - not great to bring in a small child like some would being it is "just Superman!"

During the end of the flick, the power went out for 10 seconds and reset the movie, there was about 4 minutes of the movie left. We actually waited over 20 minutes for them to get the movie back on for us. Well worth the wait!

Another Movie Of Superman   June 26, 2013   Report Abuse

Man Of steel, which came out this year is one of the best super-hero movies of all time. There will be a little confusion in the binning, but later it will all make scene. This movie budget was 225 million and it earned 403 million in just 12 days.Henry Cavill had done a wonderful job as Clerk. Overall the movie was awesome. The Sound track was wonderful. Currently this won to awards and nominated for three more. I have to say this movie hadn't done that great as Iron-Man 3 did, but still the best.
